Nobody is Above the Law

Location: Enterprise-D observation lounge Panel 1: Star Trek TNG-style title: “God Complex.” Picard: “Why are you here, Q?” Q: “I want to introduce you to an acquaintance of mine. A fellow god.” 2: Close-up of Unicron’s head: “I am (dramatic font) Unicron. The chaos bringer. Devourer of worlds.” 3: Picard, Q, and Unicron stand in the observation lounge with the table and chairs in the foreground. Unicron: “I’m usually much larger but you have low ceilings. I’m adaptable.” Picard: “What’s the point of this, Q?” Q: “I just wanted to remind you of how pathetic your little species is by introducing you to another supernatural being.” 4: Picard: “There are no such things as gods or supernatural beings, Q. Every being in the universe is governed by a set of inviolable physical laws. Including you. Despite the seemingly impossible things you can do with a snap of your fingers, even you must obey a set of natural laws. When you seem to violate the laws as we know them, it’s only because we corporeal beings don’t have a complete understanding of the laws. That’s why we’re out here, Q. To explore and expand our understanding of the universe. It may take us centuries, but someday we will understand how you and your companion here operate.” 5: Wide shot, the table and chairs gone. Picard: “…did you just eat the conference table?” Q: “You couldn’t hear the crunching noises over the sound of your own monologue.” Unicron, holding a chair: “All that talking made me hungry. Most things make me hungry. I may have an eating disorder.” Q: “A supernatural eating disorder.”

Definitely Not an Allegory

Location: Enterprise-D observation lounge Panel 1: Star Trek TNG-style title: “Elocution.” Picard, looking left: “Your people understandably grow weary of the restrictions placed upon them. So they lash out violently at innocent civilians.” 2: Picard, looking right: “Your government responds with overwhelming force while doing little to protect civilian lives. Followed by even more restrictions in the name of protecting your citizens. This cycle of violence and cultural animus has been repeated for generations.” 3: Picard, flanked by Riker and Troi: “In my years of diplomacy, there is one universal constant: situations like this can always be improved if people are willing to talk and listen to each other. I’m pleased that you have all agreed to meet here in the spirit of clear, open communication.” 4: At the other end of the table, Mars is on the view screen. Sesame Street Martians stand on one side, saying “yip yip yip yip hello yip yip yip yip greetings yip yip yip.” Mars Attacks Martians stand at the other side, saying “Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack!”
